"Companies don't succeed because of good financial management, but unfortunately, many fail without it."

I believe that small to mid-sized businesses should be able to afford the same financial expertise and support as larger companies.  Businesses perform better when owners/managers have an experienced financial partner working closely with them to deal with situations that arise on a daily basis and to stay in front of important financial issues.

In 2005, after being a CFO for 20+ years, I was searching for my next opportunity and agreed to do a short term consulting engagement.  One engagement led to another and then another and I realized that I found a niche where I could deliver significant value.  Small to mid-sized businesses can really benefit from having an experienced CFO’s involvement on an as needed basis and Bent Tree Financial Consulting was born.

Bent Tree Financial Consulting provides a flexible solution for small and mid-sized companies – a seasoned CFO available to focus on your priorities on a part-time or project basis.  While you may not be able to justify the cost of a full time CFO, using Bent Tree Financial Consulting is a common sense, cost effective solution for those times when you need financial expertise.

The engagements typically fall into one of three categories:

1.   Recurring, part-time involvement over an extended period of time –

  • Assist the existing accounting staff with preparation, review and analysis of financial information.
  • Develop improved financial reporting tools to be used by existing financial staff and management.
  • Review financial information with key management staff on a monthly basis.
  • Assist senior management with communicating financial and operational information to outside stakeholders – banks, investors, etc.

2.   Part-time involvement over a short period of time –

  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the financial system and the process used to produce the monthly financials and make suggestions for improvements.
  • Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the individuals with responsibility for accounting and financial reporting matters.
  • Serve as liaison for discussions or negotiations with existing or potential lenders or investors.
  • Profitability analysis – by market, by product, line of business in addition to labor and operating cost analysis.
  • Cash flow analysis and modeling.

3.   Specific project or activity related involvement –

  • Merger and acquisition activity (buying or selling) – due diligence, negotiation strategy and support, financing discussions, integration into existing operations, etc.
  • Refinancing or recapitalization.
  • Address physical inventory issues.
